Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Entebbe International Airport

Arrival at Entebbe International Airport, pick up by your drive/ guide then transfer to your accommodation.

Accommodation: the Protea or Hotel No.5

Day 2: Ziwa Rhino Ranch– Murchison Falls

With an early morning breakfast, transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary 180 km from Kampala.

This sanctuary was started in 2005 as a project by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Rhino Fund project as an initiative to build a sustainable rhinoceros population and relocate rhinos back to their original habitat in Uganda's protected areas. Here you will have a wonderful experience tracking the southern white rhinos.

Lunch will be provided at Amuka Lodge which is not far away from the sanctuary. After lunch you will advance to the largest national park in Uganda, Murchison Falls National Park which is 3840 sq. km in size. Overnight at the lodge

Accommodation : Nile Safari Lodge

Day 3: Game drive and Launch cruise

After breakfast we will set off for a game drive on northern bank of the Nile, giving you a greater chance of

seeing animals such as giraffes, elephants, lions, hartebeest and different species of birds.

After Lunch, the safari will be continued with a boat cruise on the river Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. Look out for the Nile crocodile, hippos, water bucks and a variety of bird species. Upon reaching the bottom of the waterfalls you will disembark and climb your way up to the Top of the Falls where you will be rewarded with amazing views of the Nile.

Day 4: Murchison Game drive - Kibale National Park

Have an early breakfast, enjoy another game drive. View more game as you catch them from their hunt expeditions before driving to Kibale. Proceed via the Escarpment, enjoy the land scape and look out for different bird species like the African Crowned Eagle, Heuglin’s Francolin.

You will then set off to Kibale Forest National Park found in Fort Portal, a town at the south-western side of Uganda. This park bares homage to a very large number of primates. This day will be a long driving day of 7-9 hours; we will have numerous stops to stretch your legs.

The black & white colobus, red tailed colobus monkey, olivebaboon, grey cheeked mangabey, bush baby and potto are among the other primates, and it’s also a home to over 325 varieties of bird species. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking (Kanyanchu)

Proceed early morning at 6:30am for full day chimpanzee habituation experience; you will spend the entire day with Chimpanzees following them from nest to nest. While tracking, you will be able to spot different animal species like the Red Colobus, Black and white Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Olive Baboon, Red-tailed Monkey, and L’Hoest’s Monkey among others and different bird species. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 6: Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park

With an early morning breakfast travel to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a nature walk, Rich in biodiversity and beautiful scenery, the wetland is a birder’s paradise with about 138 species. Located outside the park in Magombe Swamp, it also hosts eight species of primates including the black-and-white colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, red-tailed, l’Hoest’s and blue monkeys, and olive baboons. Bushbucks and mongooses can also be found here. The sanctuary was set up to preserve the exclusive environmental features along with the wetland and is managed by the local community.

Later depart Kibale Forest to Queen Elizabeth National Park, lying 1978 sq. km west of Uganda. It harbours a diverse eco-system with a lovely savannah, fertile wetlands making it home for the big game, 10 primate species and a large number of bird species.

After checking in, you will enjoy an afternoon Launch cruise along the Kazinga channel. The channel is 40 wide and offers beautiful scenery of hundreds of hippos along the banks as well as different bird species seen when cruising west towards Lake Edward. Overnight at the lodge

Overnight: Elephant Plains Lodge

Day 7: Kasenyi - Ishasha- Game drive -Buhoma

After breakfast you will head for a game drive through Kasenyi sector, watch out for the Albert endemic birds and Rothschild giraffes, buffalos, elephants and different bird species.

With packed lunch proceed to Ishasha sector, very famous for the tree climbing lions. The Ishasha sector is the only other place in the entire world where you will find tree climbing lions apart from Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania.

Continue to Buhoma sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This vast reserve offers arguably the most productive montane forest birding in Africa and supports 23 of Uganda’s 24 Albertine Rift endemic bird species.

Once part of a much larger forest that included the Virunga Volcanoes in neighboring Rwanda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is now an ecological island within a sea of human cultivation and is of immense conservation importance.

Overnight: Buhoma Lodge

Day 8: Buhoma Sector-Nkuringo

With an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a nature walk from Buhoma to Nkuringo. Enjoy a 15km walk to Nkuringo following the Kashasha river and Ivy River trails. This is a full day walk where there would be an opportunity of visiting the Munyaga River falls in the forest. The emphasis of this activity is for your walking guide to share his knowledge of the forest that you come into contact with and not simply an A to B.

Buhoma to Nkeko : 15km about 4 hours depending on your speed

Day 9: Gorilla Tracking- Tracking

After breakfast at around 7:45am with packed lunch and drinking water you will transfer to the starting point for briefing on the dos and the don’ts while with the gorillas. You will then continue to the forest for gorilla tracking following them. This activity can last from a few hours up to a full day, depending on the location of the gorillas as they range freely in the impenetrable forest.

Overnight : Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge

Day 10: Nombe Forest / Birding Buniga - Batwa Trail

Drive to the Nombe pocket forest 5km away from the lodge for a nature walk. The location has been well reserved by visitors looking for Bwindi Forest specialties. Here you will be able to search for the Purple breasted sunbird, Stripe breasted tit, Rwenzori double collared sunbird and Doherty’s bush shrike. In the evening enjoy the Batwa trail of Buniga forest.

Birding Buniga / Nombe Forest

Drive to the Nombe pocket forest 5km away from the lodge for a nature walk. The location has been well reserved by visitors looking for Bwindi Forest specialties. Here you will be able to search for the Purple breasted sunbird, Stripe breasted tit, Rwenzori double collared sunbird and Doherty’s bush shrike. Evening bird watching along the road adjacent the nearby Buniga pocket forest outside the village of Nkuringo.

Batwa trail – Community WalkAlthough Bwindi is mainly known for the gorillas it has a lot more to offer, enjoy the Batwa Trail, a first-hand introduction to one of the most unique cultures worldwide. The Batwa pygmies are a forest people displaced from the rain forest they shared with mountain gorillas. This experience will give you the opportunity to learn more about their age old culture while you enjoy a hike with the Batwa guides, see how they lived and hunted, hear ancient legends and learn about medical plants. The revenue generated from these activities directly benefits the Batwa to strengthen their community.

Overnight : Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge

Day 11: Community Walk and Canoe Excursion on Lake Mutanda

Depart Nkuringo after breakfast with your Nkuringo Walking Safari guide to commence walk to Lake Mutanda.

Drop off by the safari vehicle at Rubuguri Junction; this is a 10km drive. At Rubuguri junction enjoy a 9km walk to the north shore of the lake Mutanda. Embark in dugout canoes for 2 1/2 hours on the lake with local guide to the southern shore. From the southern shore it is a 90 minute walk into Kisoro town (4km). Relax at the junction with a Nile beer before continuing to Mgahinga National Park for an overnight.

Day 12: Hike Sabyinyo volcano in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Climbing the Sabyinyo extinct volcano is done in south western Uganda and this consists of climbing 3 peaks.

The hike to Sabyinyo takes you through muddy trails often on wooden ladders with expectations of patchy/partial rain and clearing clouds as you get to the beautiful view of Rwanda and Democratic republic of Congo. At this time, the view is at times reduced to 10ft, reach the summit view and from here you will be able to see and stand in all the 3-Countries; Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. This hike sometimes involves walking straight high up the Mountain without going round it. The views and challenges of hiking Mt. Sabyinyo makes it an amazing experience for adventurers.

After early breakfast for the hikers will depend on the choose of the following:

  1. Visit to Sabinyo Gorge (± 4 hrs; distance 6km, no elevation gain).
  2. Climbing Sabinyo Volcano (Sabinyo has three peaks, you can climb all three in the same walk,

but you need to be fit!! ± 8 hrs; distance 14 km; height 3669m, elevation gain 1300 m).

On hiking safety, Mt. Sabyinyo has walking trails and occasionally maintained wooden ladders which make it safer for hikers.

Overnight:  Gahinga Lodge.

Day 13: Flight to Entebbe – Out bound transfer

Transfer early morning to Kisoro Airstrip for flight to Entebbe – day room use at Hotel No.5 the transfer to Airport for out bound flight.
